— Wheels and Tires
The further we progress into the technicalities of homebuilt horseless carriages, there seems to be more confusion generated as to obtaining wheels and tires. Most of the needed information has been covered in past issues of our Engine and Wheels newsletter. We decided to create this page as a directory to the needed information. Merely click on the highlighted link and that issue will load and you can read, down load or print out the desired information.
All about Worksman heavy duty bicycle wheels. This was covered in E&W Issues 24 and 25
In issue 25 on page 4, you are instructed how to improve, even more, a great wheel, by the addition of precision bearings. It was learned that a Kilian bearing No. F-700 could be pressed into a particular Worksman hub, to produce the ultimate, wire spoke, wheel. These bearings are available, mail order, from BDI Bearings.
Improving both appearance and performance by adding 3.0 x 26 tires to heavy duty bicycle wheels such as Worksman's. This was covered in E&W Issue 39 - page 7
Obtaining realistic looking new wood spoke wheels. This was covered in E&W Issues 37 and 42 - page 9
Since the wood spoke wheels we describe use 3.50 x 19 motorcycle size tires, we are listing, below, a mail order source for the tires, tubes and strips. Any motorcycle shop can order them for you, but not everyone lives close to one. We have brought them as close as your mailbox:
The most economical are Cheng Shin tires. They can be ordered from J. C. Whitney - 1-800-853-4227 Web Site = http://www.jcwhitney.com
